Farming Down The Food Chain
By re-introducing species along the food chain (one's waste is another's food), Car-Y-Mor have minimised waste and enabled sufficient growth to sustain healthy populations while harvesting surplus. Their choice of seaweed and oyster species is of particular importance as they play a vital role in carbon sequestration through photosynthesis and shell formation. 83% of the global carbon cycle is circulated through the ocean on this way, so sustainable ocean farming like this can have a huge impact against the climate crisis. In their success, Car-Y-Mor has grown their business, supporting other sustainable businesses such as Nopla who produce seaweed-based biodegradable packaging.
